Meet Nico & Lauren
My name is Nico and I have had a fascination with nature since I can remember. Before I moved to California to marry my wife, Lauren, I grew up in Germany. My grandpa owned a cabin with a few small ponds which got me hooked on fishing and anything nature related. My parents still love to talk about how no matter where we went, I always NEEDED a dip net and would never come home without a prized stick.
Throughout my childhood I had kept aquariums, but sadly had to give up the hobby during my college years. When I finally settled down in California, I had the longing to pick up the hobby again and successfully convinced my wife to let me get a 10 gallon.
It didn’t stop there! While exploring on hikes, I was impressed by the amount of Manzanita wood that California is blessed with, and once again managed to always bring home a prized stick. Wanting to share my locally collected beauties, was the spark that started Nico’s Nature.
My passion for creating living ecosystems peaked my wife’s interest in the benefits of growing plants in aquariums, which quickly led to her all out obsession with terrestrial plants. After moving to a bigger place, we now have a dedicated rack of aquariums, and a variety of ecosystems scattered all over the jungle that is our house. Not to mention the various ponds and piles of driftwood in the backyard.
We are very glad to both enjoy hobbies that have such an awesome synergy, making Nico’s Nature what it is today. We collect unique pieces of wood in the mountains of Northern California, debarking each piece so you can enjoy their natural texture in your own tank. We breed Neocaridina shrimp, as well as a variety of nano and community fish. To round out our selection, we offer a plethora of homegrown aquatic and terrestrial plants, so you can experience the benefits that plants bring to your home aquarium.
